  1. $15,000 to Muskegon Community Health Project for administrative costs in developing and acquiring a federal government grant in the amount of $500,000
  2. $2,930 to Concerned About Teen Sexuality (C.A.T.S.), a program presented by Muskegon area high school students who promote sexual abstinence until marriage and abstinence from drugs, alcohol and tobacco as the healthiest possible choice
  3. $23,000 to Mercy General Health Partners for ultrasound system including a transvaginal probe and compact flash card slot for use by the OB/GYN residency program.
  4. $2,500 to the American Red Cross (serving Muskegon, Oceana and Newaygo Counties) to support the CPR Saturday program.
  5. $42,500 to the Muskegon Family Care to be used only for facility expenditures.
  6. $30,000 to Muskegon Geriatric Associates for: operational expenses, the development and implementation of a lecture series and training regarding geriatrics for osteopathic physicians in residency training at Mercy General Health Partners.
  7. $2,500 to Michael L. Baker, DO, for a research project on the effects of water based lubricants on the thin prep pap smear.
  8. $60,000 for the establishment of a fund for recruitment of osteopathic physicians with residency training in specialties needed in the Muskegon area.

  1. $900 to the Friends of the White Lake Community Library for the purchase of books for the lay person on health care, nutrition and physical fitness.
  2. A guarantee of payments not to exceed $350,000 over three fiscal years to the Mercy General Health Partners Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Clinic to offset potential initial operating losses resulting from startup expenses involved in the expansion of the osteopathic manipulative medicine office space and hours, development of an osteopathic manipulative medicine residency program, development of osteopathic manipulative medicine training programs for licensed physicians and development of a program for providing osteopathic manipulative therapy to hospital inpatients.
  3. $50,000 to The Muskegon Community Health Project for the Muskegon County Cold-Pack Project: to educate county healthcare providers, patients and the public about appropriate treatment for viral infections; to increase collaboration among hospital systems, providers, private physicians, pharmacists and insurers to eliminate the overuse of antibiotics for upper-respiratory viral infections; and, to conduct a two-year study of the county wide impact of using cold packs for upper-respiratory viral infections.
  4. $12,550.64 to The Mercy General Health Partners Department of Pathology for the purchase of a double-headed teaching microscope for use in the teaching programs for osteopathic interns, residents and medical students.
  5. $7,000 to The Mercy General Health Partners Family Practice Residency program for a monthly behavioral science series and for seminars on alcohol abuse, substance abuse and HIV.
  6. $4,000 to the Muskegon-Oceana Chapter of the Red Cross for senior transportation services.

  7. $6,840 to Mercy General Health Partners for the initiation of its "Dad's Always On Duty" program which will provide training, education, job referrals, and support for noncustodial fathers of children aged 0-3.
  8. $88,470 to Muskegon General Family Health Center for the equipment for two dental operatories for a dental clinic for a multi-disciplinary dental clinic offering dental services to the Muskegon area residne3ts and educational opportunities for students from the Michigan State University School of Osteopathic Medicine and the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.
  9. $1,000 each to Spring Lake High School, Holland High School, Reeths Puffer High School, and Unity Christian High School for life science education materials.
  10. $2,000 to the American Osteopathic Healthcare Association for sponsorship of the Trustee Track of its 1999 annual convention and a speaker on the duties and obligations of Trustees.
  11. $1,000 each to sponsor the development and creation of a tree to be donated to the Mercy General Health Partners Festival of Trees.
